IPA – the largest Police Association in the world with close to 400,000 members
The International Police Association is a friendship organization for members of the police force, whether in employment or retired, and without distinction as to rank, position, gender, race, language, or religion. We have around 400,000 members in nearly 100 countries, of which over 60 are affiliated National Sections and we are represented on 6 continents.

The IPA has been active in Alberta-NWT since the 1960’s and in 2023 three IPA Regions merged into one region designated as IPA Canada Region Five to serve all members in our geographical area.
What we offer:
- Travel: IPA membership provides many opportunities to travel as part of a group or individually – meeting other members around the world. IPA friendship weeks are particularly popular.
- IPA Houses: Members benefit from our hugely popular IPA Houses and other accommodation options. These are located around the globe and are available for IPA members to stay in.
- Education & Information Centre: Our beautiful historical training centre, located in the woodlands and mountains of Germany, is a unique and special location for furthering your education and has a wide variety of seminars to choose from.
- Arthur Troop Scholarship: There are funding opportunities for activities and seminar programmes for IPA members. Each year the prestigious Arthur Troop Scholarship is awarded to applicants from around the world.
- Sports: Members can take part in tournaments and events around the world with everything from table tennis to football and cycling to marathons on offer.
- Young Police Officers Seminar: Organized biannually, these popular seminars are for serving officers who don’t usually have the option to travel due to their junior status or budget constraints.
- Interest Groups: IPA has many active interest groups from motorcycling meet-ups, the Guinness Forum, collectors’ clubs, self-defence groups and skiing enthusiasts.
- Affinity Program and Member Discounts: A number of companies offer discounts to IPA Canada members.

Who can join the IPA in Alberta and NWT?
Membership in the International Police Association is open to serving and retired law enforcement personnel. In Alberta, in addition to the core police services, that includes the Alberta Sheriffs and Peace Officers appointed under the Alberta Peace Officer Act.
